ShieldFive Help
Managing your account
Manage your ShieldFive account, update your credentials, and understand the difference between login security and encryption security.
How do I sign up or sign in?
Click "Get started" or "Sign in" from the homepage to access the authentication page. You'll need:
- A valid email address
- A password with at least 6 characters
After signing up, verify your email and sign in to access your secure Files dashboard.
Do I need to verify my email?
Yes. Email verification is required before you can upload files. After signing up, check your inbox for a verification email and click the confirmation link. If you don't see it:
- Check your spam/junk folder
- Wait a few minutes and check again
- Contact support if you still haven't received it
How do I reset my password?
If you forget your account password:
- Click "Forgot your password?" on the sign-in page
- Enter your email address
- Check your inbox for a password reset link
- Click the link and create a new password
Important: Resetting your account password does not affect your encryption passphrases. If you've lost an encryption passphrase, those files cannot be recovered.
How do I change my email address?
To update your account email:
- Sign in and navigate to Settings
- Open the Account section
- Enter your new email address
Check both your old and new email for confirmation messages
- Click the confirmation link in the new email
Your email will only change after you confirm the new address.
How do I sign out?
To sign out of ShieldFive:
- Click your account menu in the top navigation
- Select "Sign out"
You'll be signed out and redirected to the homepage. Your vault key will be cleared from memory. You'll need to sign in again to access your files.
What happens when I delete my account?
Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. When you delete your account:
- All your encrypted files are permanently deleted
- All folders and share links are removed
- Your subscription is immediately cancelled
Core account data is removed, with limited audit/compliance records retained where legally required
Warning: Download any files you want to keep before deleting your account. After deletion, no one can recover your files or account.
Can ShieldFive or support recover my encryption keys?
No. This is a crucial distinction:
Account password: Can be reset via email. Controls access to your account.
Encryption passphrases: Cannot be reset or recovered by anyone. Controls access to your file contents.
ShieldFive support can help you regain access to your account, but we cannot decrypt files or recover lost passphrases. Always store passphrases securely in a password manager.
